'Downton Abbey' Strawberry Charlotte

Photos from Downton Abbey Christmas Special
Anyone else loving the Downton Abbey series on PBS? The second season just ended.... phew. Now I have to find something else to entertain me on Sunday nights. That's next to impossible because the pickings are pitiful.

If you love period pieces you will love Downton Abbey. It's the dresses that the up-stair woman wear that I lust after. They are so very clamorous!!

Today's dessert would look perfect on any regal table. This is really quite an easy dessert to make. The only hard part is the Vanilla Bavarian Mousse and to be quite honest that's not even difficult.

Victorian couple

Ingredients for Vanilla Bavarian Mousse:
1-1/2 (.25 ounce) packages unflavored gelatin
8 tablespoons cold water
9 tablespoons white sugar
2-1/4 tablespoons cornstarch
2 eggs
1-1/2 cups milk
3/4 cup vanilla ice cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (I highly recommend using Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract)
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 pie shell, baked

Directions:
1. Soften gelatin in cold water. Scald the milk.

2. In a mixing bowl, mix together sugar and cornstarch. Add eggs and mix thoroughly. Add milk and softened gelatin, stirring constantly.

3. Cook custard in double boiler over hot water until it thickens and coats spoon. Remove from heat. Add ice cream while custard is hot. Cool thoroughly.

4. Add vanilla, whip the cream, and fold 1-1/2 cups into cooled custard.

5. Line a 9-inch springform pan with lady fingers. Place them on the bottom and also around the sides. Pour in the mousse. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Remove from pan. Just before serving add diced strawberries and kiwi.

Carnival for MASTERPIECE

Don't you just love her dress?

I love Downton Abbey! I JUST started watching it less than two weeks ago online and now all I have left is the Christmas finale. ;) The ladies' dresses are really fabulous...and I'm excited that the third season will take place during the Roaring Twenties!

This dessert is really pretty. If I ever have a Downtown Abbey party, I'll have to serve this. =)

I have been BEGGING my husband to let us (when I say us I really mean me) watch this series on Netflix. I think he would rather gauge his eyes out. Maybe if I make him this yummy looking dessert and tell him it's a package deal I can get in a few episodes! :)

Yes Yes! Me Me! Jumping up and down and waving hand madly - adore Downton Abbey. What will we do with ourselves until season 3?! I think your idea of entertaining oneself with dessert until it's arrival is perfect teehee!

Love the Downton series & Love your pretty photo of this beautiful dessert.

I have one question though. You mention a pie shell in the body of the recipe, but not in the directions. ??
Help?
